Finding Time for a First Love

One of things that has been most surprising about my transition to staying home with my kiddos full-time is how quickly the days go by and how little time I seem to have to get anything done! At this very moment I am staring at a messy kitchen that I didn't have time to clean up before getting everyone out the door this AM. As much as the mess is bothering me, I am not going to let it consume all of my time. Some how tidying up the kitchen can quickly turn into cleaning out and organizing the pantry - then before I know it, its time to pick up the little one from pre-school.

In addition to spending more time with my kids, one of the reasons I decided to leave my job was to figure out a more creative path for myself. In college I studied Art History and Arts Management. I also took a lot of studio art classes. I used to paint all the time, but I haven't done much (other than painting murals) since the kids were born. This weekend my son's school is having a winter festival and silent auction. When the letter came home seeking auction items I volunteered to donate a custom watercolor painting of the highest bidder's home or pet. I decided to paint a couple of samples to show bidders the "product." I thought I'd have lots of time to paint but I ended up doing most of it at night or on the weekends. I finished both pieces and dropped them off at the school yesterday.

Even though I am pretty happy with the way they turned out, I am really nervous that I'm not going to get any bids. Its always nerve wracking to put yourself our there. As long as they get a couple of bids and the school ends up getting some money out of my donation, I'll be happy.

Sorry for the poor picture quality of the paintings. I took pictures after I had framed them and was having lighting/glare issues. The house is the one we just sold and the dog is my sister's. Happy early birthday Lindsay!

I wish I could bid on it! Amazing work, your sister is lucky!

Thanks Stacey! You know I'd be happy to paint something for my sister in-law.
All I need is a picture :)

Can I commission you to paint something for your brother-in-law? His birthday is in May and I know he would like a picture of Bismarck...
