Master Makeover - Making the Bed

Because I used such a bold and colorful fabric for the curtains, I didn't want to go overboard with the bedding. Even though I kept it simple, I think the small changes and additions make a big impact. I added a simple white bed skirt (from Target), swapped out the old duvet cover with a crisp white duvet cover (again from Target), made two euro pillow sham covers, and made a new cover for an old round Ikea pillow (pictured below).

So without further ado, do you remember the before?

Now for the much improved after?

I was super excited to find a duvet that has a geometric pattern that is almost identitical to that of the fabric I used for the shams.  I didn't want to have to off load a bunch of pillows from the bed every night,  so I only created three very simple decorative pillows. The covers are removable and washable (a must with kids).

With each step, I am loving the room more and more. Decorating the room has also motivated me to keep it nice and tidy. Afterall, it would not be a restful retreat if it was messy. For the past week I have been trying to make the bed every day and have not allowed myself or my hubby to use the chair as a resting place for clothes that we are too lazy to put away. So far, so good.
