One Room Challenge - Week 1

Have you heard of the One Room Challenge? "Starting on Wednesday, October 7th, twenty design bloggers will transform a space in their home (or the home of a client) from start to finish. Each Week, they will be sharing their process, tips, and sources. All of this will lead up to the final room reveals on Wednesday, November 11th." In addition to the twenty celebrity bloggers. Bloggers like little old me, can blog along and share progress on the Calling it Home blog. I've decided to tackle the powder room that sits between our master bedroom and living room. I wanted to have it done before the holidays, so the ORC timing is perfect.

At the moment, its a pretty blah space. The walls are tan, the trim is brown, and the fixtures are ugly victorian knock offs. Here's what it looks like now.

Here's my plan.
I've been itching to paint a room black and a small room like this seems like the perfect place to start. I haven't settled on the shades of black yet, but I know I want a true glossy black for the trim and door and a slightly lighter black matte. I love, love, love this fabric  for a roman shade.

I'm not 100% committed to the sconces or the mirror, but I want something similar. I am committed to brass hardware. I think door pulls with an Asian vibe would work really well with the fabric and the red paint (Annie Sloan Emperors Silk) I plan to use on the vanity.

Lastly, I plan to hang black and white art. I love the playfulness of this Rock Paper, Scissors Print. I also have a group of black and white wood black prints from Japan that would look great in the room.

So that's my plan. I'll post my progress every Wednesday. I'd also love feedback. Do you think I'm crazy to paint a room black? What about the counter top - I don't have the budget to replace it. Ideas?

I absolutely love what you have in store for this room! I love the idea of that gorgeous red Annie Sloan paint on the vanity with the Asian inspired pulls. Love it all! Can I ask where you found the pulls in the lower left? They'd be perfect for the credenza I'm working on. Thanks!
