Handmade Gifts for Co-workers

I may have mentioned that I have a new job. I work for a charitable foundation and although its not an outlet for my artistic interests, I really enjoy my work. I have been getting little gifts from co-workers since last week. Most gifts have been baked goods or candy. I don't really like to bake so I decided to make something for each of my new colleagues. I came up with magnets that are yet another spin on the "keep calm and carry on"poster.  Since we are in the business of giving grants I made "keep calm and grant on" magnets.

Here's how to make your own:

Step 1: Create an image in Word and print it out on card stock.
Step 2: Cut out your image. I use a paper cutter to get really straight cuts.
Step 3: Cut a rectangle (same size as the paper) out of balsa wood. I used a really think sheet of balsa that I was able to cut with scissors.
Step 4: Attach the paper to the balsa wood with Elmer's spray glue.
Step 5: Apply a thin coat of Modge Podge to the top of the magnet.
Step 6: Use hot glue to attach a magnet to the balsa wood side. I cut up several free magnets from realtors and reused them.

I wrapped each magnet in cellophane, added a candy cane, and attached gift tags (free download here) with some red yarn.

What gifts are you making this holiday season, would you ever make gifts for co-workers?
