Not Your Traditional Necktie

My husband doesn't have to wear ties for work so he has never received one for Father's Day. This year I thought I'd give him the quintessential Father's Day gift, with a spin. Inspired by this week's Iron Craft Challenge, I tried something new; I etched necktie designs onto two pint glasses (picked up for $.99 each at Tuesday Morning).

It was a very easy project! First I taped off the neck tie design on the glasses using painter's tape. Next, I applied the etching cream. You have to put on a very thick coat. The instructions said it would etch in 5 minutes. I found that this was not the case and had better results letting the cream sit for 20 minutes. The last step was to wash off the cream with water and remove the tape.

Have any of you ever etched glass? What brand of etching cream did you use? Were you happy with the results?

That's so cool! I love that. I've used that brand, too, and have had the same problem. I haven't been able to find another brand around here, so I'm stuck with that one for the time being.

I've been wanting to do some etching. I've looked at the cream but haven't bought any yet. Love the tie idea.
