I can't believe its been 5 weeks since Beatrice came into my life. We are starting to find our rhythm which has given me time to tackle a few home/decorating projects while I am on maternity leave. I still haven't received Beatrice's bedding from Pottery Barn so the nursery isn't quite ready for the big reveal. I have however, decided to tackle a few additional projects in her room including: adding seating, creating art work to hang above her crib, and creating a mobile out out of cards we have received since her birth.
Since late night feedings will take place in our room for a while, I opted not to purchase a glider for Beatrice's nursery. I didn't have one for Elliot either, and the omission has worked for us. Elliot's room did have a slipper chair that provided seating for grown ups while we were playing or reading in his room. I wanted a similar seating option for Beatrice's room so I decided to fix up a bench I purchased about 4 years ago that has been sitting in the basement waiting to be used. The bench adds to the room's charm and is a very functional addition.
I purchased the bench at one of my favorite thrift stores in Richmond, Love of Jesus Thrift, for $10.00. After cleaning and lightly sanding it, I primed it with Rust-oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover Primer spray paint. Once it was dry, I painted it with Rust-oleum Painter's Touch Ultra Cover spray paint in Green Apple. The color matches the green in the room's curtains perfectly and adds a pop of color to the room (click here to see Rust-oleum's great color selection) I used scraps of pink and white chenille to whip up a couple of pillows.
Using spray paint made for a quick project that I was able to complete in a couple of hours. I'll be posting about the artwork above the crib and the mobile over the next couple of weeks.
