Chip off the Old Block

It should come as no surprise that I plan to make my son's Halloween costume this year. I actually plan to always make or help him make homemade costumes. I have very vivid and fond memories of making my own Halloween costumes with the help of my dad. We always came up with something different that I knew would be the envy of the cul-de-sac.

Last year, in honor of my husband's alma mater, Elliot was a University of Colorado (CU) Buffalo. I made his hat out of felt, faux fur and fleece; sewed brown pants with the leftover fleece; and appliqued a yellow tee-shirt with black cotton hand-cut letters and CU logo.

Wasn't he the cutest little buffalo that ever roamed?

This year Elliot is going to be a dinosaur. I promise to post pictures and sewing tips and his costume starts to come together. Want a homemade costume, but don't feel confident in your crafting/sewing skills? Check out the following costume kits and DIY costume instructions.

Colonel Sanders and a Bucket of Chicken, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, and Tinker Bell and Captain Hook
Paper bag Cowboy
